Proposing a monogram font, we wanted to show you a classic typeface, but a one that has something more to it. It may seem like a small detail, but in our opinion it is no less important than the materials and hardware used - especially when it can also be a subtle nod to the craft and the long tradition of Polish typography.
Hence our choice: "Brygada 1918", a Polish serif font with an interesting history.
The original "Brygada" was most likely created by Polish graphic artist and typographer Adam Półtawski in 1928, on the 10th anniversary of Poland regaining independence. On the 100th anniversary of this event, in 2018, based on the original matrices discovered by Janusz Tryzno in the Artistic Book Museum in Łódź, a team of designers (Mateusz Machalski, Borys Kosmynka and Przemysław Hoffer) recreated it in a digital version as "Brygada 1918", thanks to the support of the "Niepodległa" program and the President of the Republic of Poland. To emphasize the dynamics and timelessness of the typeface, we decided on an italic variant.
